Biography

Dr. Wei X Wong, MD is a board-certified Nephrologist. Dr. Wong earned his medical degree from I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, completed residency training in Internal medicine at the University of Arizona, Tucson, and specialized further by achieving a fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Arizona, Tucson.

At Southwest Kidney Institute, Flagstaff Office, Dr. Wong provides comprehensive care for patients with kidney disease, with a strong focus on acute ICU nephrology care and chronic kidney disease management and electrolytes and acid-base abnormalities. He has published research on “Practice Patterns of SGLT2 Inhibitor and GLP-1 Agonist Treatment in Eligible Type 2 Diabetic Patients Before and After the Publication of the 2018 ADA/EASD Position Statement: PUB079” and “Infection Rate at 1 Year of Deceased Donor Kidney Transplant in the Elderly: PO2459”, and serves as Teaching faculty at Verde Valley Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency program.

When interacting with his patients, Dr. Wong’s care philosophy is “rooted in the belief that effective treatment requires a humanistic approach that acknowledges the whole person and their unique context, rather than narrowly focusing on a specific ailment.”

Dr. Wong is fluent in Chinese, Malay, and Indonesian and has received the Resident Educator Of The Year 2023, Graduate Medical Education Program at Verde Valley Medical Center, the Bressler-Alpert Society Travel Award, University of Arizona, College of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Nephrology Division, and the Banner University Medical Center BE Award: Be Bold, Be Kind, Be Awesome; Tucson, AZ. Outside of medicine, he likes to go camping and kayaking with his family at various rivers, lakes, and national parks in Northern Arizona. He treasures his regular game nights with friends, where they gather to play a variety of board games.
