Biography

Akbar Khan, MD is a clinical and interventional nephrologist at Southwest Kidney Institute in Phoenix, specializing in cardiorenal medicine across CKD, ESRD, hypertension, and dialysis vascular access. He trained at Indiana University School of Medicine, one of the nation’s largest academic nephrology divisions, where he served as Chief Fellow. His work has been published in JASN and presented at the NKF Spring Clinical Meeting and ASDIN, and an earlier career in clinical documentation improvement gave him a precise eye for turning clinical data into guidance physicians and patients can act on.

He practices bilingually in English and Spanish, a daily asset in Phoenix’s large Spanish-speaking community. Outside the clinic, he cycles, golfs, and considers finding a great new restaurant a legitimate athletic achievement.
