Biography
Dr. Bindu Jayavelu is a board-certified nephrologist who provides comprehensive kidney care with a focus on peritoneal and home dialysis and onconephrology (management of kidney complications in cancer patients).
She earned her medical degree from Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad, India; completed her residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts; and went on to complete a fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
At Southwest Kidney Institute in Mesa, Dr. Jayavelu is dedicated to helping patients manage complex kidney conditions through collaborative, patient-centered care. She has presented research on thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) and currently serves as Medical Director for DaVita Gilbert and DaVita Power Road Home Dialysis.
Dr. Jayavelu’s care philosophy is grounded in partnership: “I greatly value collaborating with patients—taking into account their preferences and goals to develop treatment plans based on evidence-based information.”
Dr. Jayavelu is fluent in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. She is an active member of the American Society of Nephrology and the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis, and she volunteers with NKF – Path to Wellness free health screening clinics. Outside of medicine, she loves to hang out with friends and family, and painting with acrylics on canvas is her latest passion.
