Biography

Rachel Filgueiras Pinto, MD, MMSc, is a board-certified nephrologist. Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Dr. Pinto earned her medical degree from Universidade Federal Fluminense and, completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona; and fellowship training in Nephrology at the University of California, San Diego.

At Southwest Kidney Institute’s Silverbell location, Dr. Pinto focuses on glomerulonephritis and nephrolithiasis. She has published research on nephrolithiasis and renal transplantation and she actively contributes to advancing kidney care.

Her care philosophy is grounded in collaboration: “I advocate for personalized care that emphasizes shared decision-making, prioritizing patient education and active engagement. This approach empowers individuals to take charge of their health and fosters a more collaborative relationship between patients and providers.”

She is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish and has received the Outstanding Resident in Nephrology award from the University of Arizona. Dr. Pinto is an active member of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Brazilian Society of Nephrology.
