Biography
Umar Waheed, MD, FASDIN, is a board-certified nephrologist with specialized expertise in interventional nephrology. He earned his medical degree from Rawalpindi Medical College; completed his residency in internal medicine at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois; and fellowship training in nephrology at Ohio State University.
At Southwest Kidney Institute Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Dr. Waheed provides comprehensive care for patients with kidney disease, with a strong focus on Dialysis access creation, maintenance and repair.
Dr. Waheed has contributed to multiple research studies, including the “Maturation of Arteriovenous Fistula with Automated Sonography Assessments (MAFASA) Trial” and a multi-center study on stent grafts for dysfunctional hemodialysis access. He also is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona and is a guest reviewer for the Journal of Vascular Access.
Dr. Waheed is fluent in Urdu and Punjabi. He serves as a Board Member for Interventional Nephrology at Southwest Kidney Institute and is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Nephrology, National Kidney Foundation, and Renal Physicians Association.
