Biography
Wei X Wong, MD, is a board-certified nephrologist. Dr. Wong earned his medical degree from I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University; completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona, Tucson, and fellowship training in Nephrology at the same institution.
At Southwest Kidney Institute in Flagstaff, Dr. Wong provides comprehensive care for patients with kidney disease, with a strong focus on acute ICU nephrology, chronic kidney disease management and electrolytes, and acid-base disorders.
He has published research on SGLT2 Inhibitor and GLP-1 Agonist in Type 2 Diabetes, as well as infection rates in elderly transplant recipients. Dr. Wong also serves as teaching faculty at internal Medicine Residency Program at Verde Valley Medical Center. He has received multiple honors, including the Resident Educator of the Year award from Valle Verde Medical Center and the Bressler-Alpert Society Travel Award from the University of Arizona.
Dr. Wong’s care philosophy is grounded in empathy and whole-person care: “Effective treatment requires a humanistic approach that acknowledges the whole person and their unique context, rather than narrowly focusing on a specific ailment.”
He is fluent in Chinese, Malay, and Indonesian. Outside of his practice, he enjoys spending quality time with his family, often going camping and kayaking at various rivers, lakes, and national parks across Northern Arizona, and board game nights with friends and family
